BREAD AT NACL RESIDENCY 2022: roar!

In August 2022, BREAD Arts Collective had an incredible Deep Space residency at North American Cultural Laboratory (NACL). This is BREAD's third performance residency at NACL, this time bringing our latest project, ROAR! to life.

ROAR! is an experimental comedic play with original rock music which tells the true story of the making of a movie starring 100 lions, tigers and other untrained big cats. Written and directed by BREAD member Lindsey Hope Pearlman with music by BREAD founding member Andrew Lynch, ROAR! is about 1970’s Hollywood, mental illness, and the sacred bond between mother and daughter.

The play ROAR! dramatizes the disastrous endeavor of making a film starring hundreds of wild, big cats. Some say the film ROAR! is the “most dangerous home movie ever made”.

While at NACL, BREAD Arts Collective explored the contrast between transposed, obviously fake blood materials (shredded paper, streamers, glitter, confetti) and realistic blood to juxtapose very real pain and trauma against the ridiculousness of the story.
